These black cumin, (Nigella sativa) seed oil capsules are smallish (see pic) and very easy to swallow. The odor of black cumin is supposed to range from fennel to nutmeg but I get a definite strong impression of oregano, like the oregano oil I take occasionally for a cold, very pleasant in any case and fresh. Unfortunately I seem to be constantly burping it up, for several hours after taking them! This is not something I experience very often with the many supplements I take, just once in awhile with fish oil, so I think these may not agree with me. So I will finish the bottle and not reorder unless the situation improves.

These are easy to take. Easy to swallow. No weird taste, or after taste. I haven’t noticed any changes yet but I’ve read this supplement has many health benefits so I will continue to take it. Very easy to add to my daily regimen. Would recommend.

Black seed oil may help with several health related issues (i.e., inflammation, allergies, acne, cancer, asthma, heart, rheumatoid arthritis, and male fertility). This particular black seed oil supplement advertises that it may help the immune system, balance cholesterol, promote liver health, aid in weight loss, and improve skin/hair health. I am not sure about all of these potential benefits and there are not many studies to provide unequivocal proof, and in some cases, given a large enough dose, some of the advertised benefits are really potential side effects (i.e., liver or kidney damage). For me, I can’t say I noticed any benefit to my immune system (I got sick and stayed that way for two weeks), I don’t feel like my cholesterol or heart health was impacted overall, but that can be hard to tell without blood work, which is likely the same for liver health. The two things that should be noticeable (weight loss and skin/hair health), I did not really experience any benefits in those two departments.

Given the studies, even though I had no indication of beneficial effects from the use of black seed oil (which includes this supplement), there is some research (usually small studies with few people, or small studies on mice), there are some noticeable benefits; however, those benefits seemed to have responses from a relatively small percentage of the study group and more research is needed to really understand the benefits of black seed oil (or other forms besides oil).

The black seed oil comes as a liquid (to be expected, it is an oil) in a slightly smaller than average and easy to swallow capsule. The capsules are then contained in a brown plastic bottle with a black plastic screw on cap. Given the bottle is semi-transparent, I would recommend storing this supplement in a dark place to protect them from light damage/degredation. The supplement is formulated in the USA, manufactured in a GMP certified facility, and non-GMO. I did not see anything about third-party or internal lab testing for quality and purity, but by all appearances (and taste and smell) it is reasonable quality. There are 90 capsules in a bottle, and the serving size is two, so you will get roughly a month and a half out of a bottle.

The supplement does have a slight odor to it that smells as you’d expect it (like a seed oil). There is also a taste to it that is again like you’d expect. I didn’t find the smell or taste to be bad, but I did notice that any belch/burp for hours after would taste like these pills. While that didn’t bother me, I at least was not having to talk to anyone close to me, so in case it was offending to someone else, I didn’t have to deal with that.

While I didn’t have any noticeable beneficial impacts (and certainly no negative ones), this supplement is one that I am going to research more (meaning black seed oil and not specifically this product brand). The studies look promising for heart health among other things (like cancer, asthma, etc.), but it does seem more needs to be learned about the dosage and form of delivery to maximize beneficial impact. As an oil consumed by mouth, heart health (to include cholesterol and triglyceride levels) is something that I think a supplement like this one most certainly can help with and likely why I will continue to take it.
